RC tanks - scale, BB firing, infrared and smoke
Remote control tanks can be hobby models or play-focused battle toys. Their firing systems are not interchangeable. This guide explains scale, plastic BB firing, infrared battle and smoke, with examples from the current range.
What to look for
Scale describes the model's size relative to the vehicle it represents. For the same full-size vehicle, a 1:16 model is larger than a 1:24 model. Different real tanks have different dimensions, so check actual measurements before choosing a shelf or play area.
BB firing means the tank launches small plastic pellets. Infrared battle uses electronic signals to register hits. It does not need to fire a pellet for that battle function.
Smoke and sound add effects. They do not tell you which battle system is included. Follow the model's instructions for the smoke unit and its approved fluid.
Check the exact version, age rating and included equipment. Do not assume two infrared tanks can battle together just because both say infrared. Compatibility needs checking.
BB models need appropriate eye protection and a controlled shooting area. Never aim at people or animals. Follow the instructions and supervise use.
The tanks
The Heng Long Type 90 1:24 has BB firing, infrared battle and 2.4GHz control. The Heng Long Leopard 1:24 also lists BB and infrared functions. The Leopard is described as a hobby model for ages 14 and over.
The Heng Long M1A2 Abrams 1:24 lists BB firing, 2.4GHz control, a rotating turret and a moving barrel. Choose it on those confirmed features. Its current description does not establish infrared battle or smoke.
For the larger scale, the Heng Long T90 1:16, Heng Long KV-1 1:16 and Heng Long Panther 1:16 all list BB firing, infrared battle, smoke and sound. All three are rated 14+. The KV-1 also lists metal suspension arms. Check the supplied version rather than assuming every part is metal.
For a two-model battle set, the infrared battle tank pair includes two 4WD tanks with infrared battle. This is a separate option from the scale Heng Long models.
The soft dart battle tank is a 4WD play model rated 8+. It fires soft darts and has smoke, lights, sound and gesture watch control. Its listing includes 12 soft darts. Soft darts are different from plastic BBs.
How to decide
Start with the firing system and age suitability. Choose infrared for electronic battle play, soft darts for the dart-firing model, or a Heng Long hobby tank for scale detail and its listed functions. Then compare size, compatibility and effects.
